About Me
Hubby and I are baby-boomer empty-nesters. So, when two years after both sons left for college our neighbor's Yorkshire Terriers had a darling litter of puppies, we begged to adopt one. Having had only medium to large size dogs previously, the idea of an adorable lap dog was too tempting, and so young Zoe joined our family. She immediately let 50-pound, then 9-year-old Sarah (half Chow Chow and half something hairy dog) know who was boss by jumping up, clamping her jaws on Sarah's ear, and hanging on for dear life. Giving in to Sarah's pitiful "Help Me!" looks, we purchased baby gates and divided the house -- the living room for Zoe and the rest of the house for Sarah. Sadly, Sarah left our family on May 21, 2007, at the age of 14-2/3rds years.
When our younger son was deployed to Iraq for a year with his National Guard unit, the empty nest seemed to get even emptier. I decided that Zoe needed a little brother and we located an adorable puppy and named him Kokomo (this baby boomers loves that Beach Boys song). Actually, hubby confided that if I'd asked HIM, he'd have said "No." Which is why I didn't ask him. Koko proved to be a loving Yorkie pup and a really pesky little brother who adores his “sister.”

Kokomo, being a boy, needed some belly bands. So I figured out what they were and went about sewing several all-cotton (for comfort) bands with elastic in the belly area and Velcro closure. Kokomo quickly developed a terrible aversion to his hair getting caught in the hook and loop closure and a phobia about the sound. I was certainly tired of trying to pull his hair out of the hooks without tugging too hard. So I looked for a better way and developed his buckled belly bands; then I made them adjustable.
Since I've not been blessed with a daughter, just two single sons, I have no human girl in the family to indulge with lace, ruffles, or frills....so my sights turned toward the Yorkies. Utilitarian nylon strap-style harnesses weren't fun (for me), horizontal "H" shaped fabric harnesses I bought were expensive and choked Zoe, so I developed patterns for their full-bodice harness vests and let my imagination go. Please look around the site and if you see something you like for your precious toy boy or girl, or something close to it, we can talk about making exactly what you wish for your pet.
Our occasional view from our front deck. Zoe and Kokomo think it is their mission to prevent deer from being in the yard–or even within sight; unfortunately, this one was across the street, which meant an extended barking session.
