Zoe, boss of the whole house

Kokomo, the "baby" brother

Sarah - Sept 21, 1992 to May 21, 2007

Hubby and I are baby-boomer empty-nesters, so two years after both sons left for college, our neighbor's Yorkshire Terriers had a darling litter of puppies. Having only ever had medium to large size dogs, the idea of an adorable lap dog was too tempting not to add young Zoe to our family. She immediately let 50-pound, then 9-year-old Sarah (half Chow Chow and half something hairy) know who was boss by jumping up, clamping her jaws on Sarah's ear, and hanging on for dear life. After being subjected to Sarah's pitiful "Help Me!" look, we purchased a baby gate and divided the house -- one room for Zoe and the rest of the house for Sarah. Sadly, Sarah left our family on May 21, 2007, at the age of 14-2/3rds years.
When our younger son was deployed to Iraq for a year with his NationalGuard unit, the empty nest got MUCH emptier. So the idea that Zoe needed a little brother came to mind and we soon located an adorable puppy and named him Kokomo (Babyboomers DO love the Beach Boys, right?). Actually, hubby confided that if I'd asked HIM, he'd have said "No." Which is why I didn't ask him. Koko proved to be a beautiful Yorkie pup and a really pesky little brother.
Kokomo, being a boy, needed some belly bands. So I figured out what they were and went about sewing several. But Kokomo quickly developed a terrible aversion to his hair getting caught in the hook and loop closure and a phobia about the sound. So I looked for a better way and thus came about his buckled belly bands.
Since I'd never been blessed with a daughter, have two single sons and no girls in the family to indulge my need for frills....my sights turned to the Yorkies. Utilitarian harnesses weren't fun (for me), horizontal "H" shaped fabric harnesses I bought choked energetic Zoe and I could find nothing that seemed to me to be right. So I developed patterns for their full-bodice harness vests that would be comfortable, not mat Zoe's tangle prone hair (the satin lining) and let my imagination go. Now you can use your imagination and get your beloved toy boy dog (3 to 9 pounds) his custom made buckled belly band or harness vest or your beautiful girl a harness dress or ruffled vest to enhance your precious little dog's good looks. Please look around and if you see something you like or close to it, we can talk about making exactly what you wish for your pet.
Our occasional view from our front deck. Zoe and Kokomo LOVE to chase deer from the yard; unfortunately, this one was across the street.
